Our journey
GM Coachwork started in the late eighties when founder and CEO, David Vooght, followed his ambition to run his own business. After an engineering apprenticeship at Westland Helicopters, he joined up with his father-in-law who was already running GM Coachwork building minibus conversions. David soon took over the business and started to expand. In the early years, GM focused on minibuses and developed the first coachbuilt low-floor Ford Transit. In the 90s, GM also designed and launched the first taxi with a sliding seat, and in 2010 launched the Minibus Lite range.
Minibus Lite reshaped the industry when it was launched. A minibus that could be driven on a car licence was a game changer. It radically transformed how schools could operate, removing the need for teaching staff to have D1 licence entitlement. In 2019, GM embraced the electric revolution with the launch of the first electric minibus, the LDV EV80. As a convertor who has always led from the front, GM is looking to the future with the next generation of minibuses.
Quality is at the heart of everything we do and investing in the right areas is the best direction the business can take. We are proud to be ISO9001 accredited and equally proud to have achieved ISO 14001 status reflecting our dedication to minimising our environmental impact.
GM is an accredited converter for all the leading commercial vehicle manufacturers including IVECO, Peugeot, Renault, Vauxhall and Volkswagen. Our Minibus Lite minibus is one of only two Peugeot Validated Conversions in the UK.
